San Francisco Sundown Town
engineered reflective vinyl, aluminum
72 inches x 60 inches
This piece was done for a show titled "Who's Afraid of San Francisco" at Frey Norris Gallery. The work is based on James Loewen's book "Sundown Towns" that chronicles American towns that posted signs excluding various groups from being inside the city limits after sundown. The San Francisco sign was based on psychedelic posters from the 60's and comments on San Francisco's liberal intolerance.
