Centering Devices and Portals both attempt to lull the viewer into a state of mental reverie by subtly shifting the way the viewer perceives their surroundings.

Centering Devices negate the viewer from the reflected image, eliminating the primary purpose of looking into a mirror--to see onseself. Instead, one sees everything but themselves, the ultimate frustration and thrill in our narcissistic soceity. What does it mean? I am nothing? I am everything? I am a vampire?

Portals create the impression of a gateway to other dimensions. Again this is an attempt to get the viewer to ponder the possibilities often obscured by the overwhelming immediacy of day to day survival.
